Conditions: Temps around 60 at start with a moderate breeze. Wind wasn't outrageous but enough to make you shift when you rode into it.
Pre Race Food: Cup of coffee and a blueberry muffin. Also drank 2 20oz bottles from 7am to the race start at 9:30am
Run #1: Legs felt pretty good out of the gate. Pace was much faster than my 5k a few weeks ago but I feel like I could've suffered through another mile close to this pace. Their timing has my pace at 6:59 but my Garmin is reading short for the course. Such is the life of GPS variability. No biggie.
T1: Fairly uneventful. Did zero transition practice so I opted to put my shoes on instead of on the bike because I didn't want to fumble with it.
Bike: Onto the course and into a modest headwind for the first 3.5 - 4 miles. Tried to settle in and get my heart rate and cadence up. About halfway through the bike my legs kind of woke up and I felt like I get more power out of my legs but the data shows a drop in the second half.
T2: Surprisingly smooth for no practice. Slipped my feet out of the shoes a little too early but I was worried about having an issue with it. Easy running dismount, shoe change and go.
Run #2: Legs felt flat out of transition. Major rubber legs and felt like I couldn't get them to turn over. Did the best I could trying to keep going but there was zero energy and a bit of cramping in my right calf. Cramping went away but energy kept going down and at mile my legs popped. Felt like I had nothing left. Struggled
